"They should name and shame the villains on the other side of the aisle who will block their efforts, and they should issue real consequences to squishy Democrats in the caucus who refuse to be bold on raising wages, protecting workers, and delivering big in ways that people can actually feel.”

Meagan makes a key point here. Even if Democrats couldn’t magically reduce the price of eggs, they should have made it clear that Republicans were to blame. I didn’t get the sense that Democrats were consistently blaming Republicans for standing in the way of better economic conditions.

letting the focus slip (flip?) to egg prices... bird flu destroyed the flocks, we should have screamed BIRD FLU.

MAGA is in a fever dream if they believe Trump and his ilk will do anything for them. This Presidency will be the most corrupt in American history…which is saying something. Trumps transition team is already selling access to the highest bidder, his revolving door of miscreants at Mar-A-Lago are lining up and his chosen cabinet is rife with corrupt people who answer only to him and not the American Constitution.

Sadly, Trumps cult followers know all of this! Yet, they somehow believe this hot-morass will magically result in a well run government bestowing benefit upon benefit on them. The cognitive dissonance is truly fascinating.

When Trumps 2025 project is complete and the price of eggs skyrocket from endless tariffs, the MAGA crowd will find a way to blame Democrats. Because that’s ALL they do.

Grift, find grievance, blame Democrats and take credit for the outstanding economies they walked into after Clinton, Obama and now Biden.

Republican Administrations screw the pooch. Democrats clean up the mess.

Pardon me if I have no respect for the blind, deaf and dumb serfdom who voted to put this twice impeached, felon and rapist back in office. It’s shameful that this nasty orange man is President. George Washington would be sick if he could see how The People have rewarded his honorable service.

At the end of the day… Democrats acted with principal. Fought hard for an inclusive society and believed, uncynically, in the strength and promise of a true Democratic Republic!

Our lack of cynicism may have cost us dearly, but we remain on the right side of history. We remain hopeful. We will fight even when we know we will lose, because we believe in more than money, we believe a better world is possible!

That is a far cry from being “squishy”.

Democracy is the idea that people vote for what they want. In this election they wanted cruelty combined with entertainment. Evangelicals love the cruelty as do most trumpers. And sticking it to the libs is just icing on the cake.

And many just didn’t care enough to vote.

Thank you, Meagan! Something I would love to hear your thoughts on is the ERA and if there is any hope of the 28th amendment.

Thank you MHM! Even though everything is so shitty, I’m excited to read more from my favorite Swamp Person.

Excellent post, I am inspired reading it! Your views perfectly align with mine, and I am glad you are here. I just started a Substack post today as well, after commenting on so many good writers here for weeks. But I am not seeking a ton of readers, just voiced one opinion so far. I will be re-stacking yours, for sure. I look forward to views on whether Democrats need to lean into more left, aka, real help for non-millionaires, or not. Personally, a more progressive stand is what I believe is needed. Enough with trying to appeal to the center/right, we need a bold alternative to counter the oligarchial and authoritarian influence the new administration-to-be is dead set upon cementing in our nation. Thank you, Swamp Person, for being here!

It's certainly worth a try. It got FDR four terms.

I didn't get to finish my comment. Where has the Edit button gone? Anyway, I love it and agree with almost everything you say. Well, probably all if it, especially the part about community. Looking forward to more.

If you can somehow make this column into a serum or IV solution, I will inject it into my veins every day and twice on Sunday.

For anyone interested in more thoughts on how to build for the future, I thought this article on The Nation did a great job laying ideas out.

The thing so few people are saying postmortem is she fucking sucked when it came to being a genocidal war criminal supporting murdering and raping everyone in Palestine 🇵🇸

80% of Democrats want a ceasefire in Palestine. They were cruel AF to students protesting genocide. Tim Walz called out the National Guard on students peacefully protesting in Minneapolis. Delegates fucked up mocking the hell outta protestors for Palestine 🇵🇸 at the DNC. They wouldn’t allow a vetted speech from a Palestinian American Congresswoman from GA. They sent the shittyest AIPAC Zionist henchmen to Dearborn to campaign in a predominantly Muslim community. They ejected respected Muslim community leaders in Michigan preemptively and wouldn’t apologize. They abandoned a huge swath of folks- young people, Black people, Muslim people, anti genocide people. Jill Stein who I usually hate kept saying “I believe in not bombing and starving children.” Josh Shapiro gleefully signed huge bombs we sent to murder civilians in Gaza. She was a war monger. Blood 🩸 on her hands. And I voted for her because Trump is waaaaaay worse. But she completely lost touch with amy moral compass other than hobnobbing with billionaires and genocide supporters. She went hard to the right. Supporting fracking in PA. Caving on trans rights. My favorite take was https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8L9DufN/

White Southerners are racist AF, hate women, and are dumb as rocks. I grew up in TN. Every damn word of this. This journalist interviewed potential voters and asked were they afraid of Agent🍊being authoritarian? And the most common response was people didn’t know what authoritarian means! No one reads. My friend who’s a psychiatrist who’s the head of an 8,000+ employee company was called up and deployed to Israel. They’re a fucking psychiatrist. They can do that over Zoom. And they’ve gotta sit in Israel as a sitting duck/ a human shield while we’re teetering on the edge of a Nuclear Holocaust between Iran and Israel because- no one is even in charge. They didn’t get Congress to authorize this war. That asshat Senator from Alabama Tuberville has blocked all Military appointments since Roe went down to try to make the Military stop allowing Service members to access abortion. Our military staffing has suffered from this. Democratic war hawks are sickening. I have loved the Democratic Party all my life and I absolutely couldn’t watch that war rally militaristic Nationalistic fascist display in Chicago. Trotting out the Sheriff from Flint, Michigan to brag about increased funding for cops in Flint to turn a predominantly Black community into a Police State instead of getting clean drinking water. They can go f themselves. ACAB

I don’t know what Jeanne Shaheen, one of my senators, was thinking about! However, here in NH we have “the New Hampshire Advantage”, which is our business-friendly economic policy. It must have been a symbolic message to the business community.

I’m writing her to ask, and might post her response, if I get one.

Sorry, very interesting but I disagree with one of your “facts.” All I heard from Kamala Harris was how she was going to help the middle and lower classes. All I heard from her were things that would support a true democracy. I don’t think the Democrats forgot The common man and woman. The common man and woman did not hear any of what she said because the newspapers and most of the TV pundits refused to honestly share her message. And then, of course, there was the misogyny and the racism…

If you are relying on legacy media to get the Democratic Party’s message out, you have already lost.

Three consecutive national elections, not once did Trump get 50% of Americans voting for him.

Clinton got 48.2% of the vote, Harris got 48.3%. Biden got 51.3%, 7M more votes than Harris got. Trump "won" WI, PA, and MI by 230,000 votes out of 154M cast. If 250,000 Dems show up in those three states, POTUS elect Harris is laughing and so are you.

I blame the stay at home Dems more than the MAGA voters showing up. To quote a famous person, "forgive them, for they know not what they are doing."

The Dems knew better, and still did not show up. That is the story.

There were actually eight formerly Democrat voting Senators that voted against the increase in the federal minimum wage in 2021. F*cking cowards.

I am convinced that Biden or Harris would be our next President had those traitors not sided with Republicans and failed the working class.
